Pennsylvania Candle Boxes are decorated in the same style as other Pennsylvania German household items.

The Candle Box at right is shown painted in two different color schemes, one with many colors and the other with a limited palette of red, black and navy. This particular design is derived from a Pennsylvania Candle Box dated 1783. (The original is in the National Gallery of Art, Wash., D.C.)
