Mahantango Valley

This design for this small chest was adapted from the second drawer of a chest of drawers from Zimmerman’s Town (Pittman), in the Mahantango Valley of Schuylkill County, PA. Each drawer of the chest had a variation of this design, with the pattern more complex on the larger lower drawers.

The original chest of drawers was painted by Jacob Maser between 1820 and 1840 and is now owned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
